Writers for Migrant Justice: Los Angeles

On September 4, 2019, writers in over 40 cities will take the stage with a goal of raising $25,000 to raise funds for Immigrant Families Together and help them post bail and provide support to detained migrants. This reading is part of a nationwide literary protest, called first by migrant and first-generation writers Christopher Soto (Loma), Javier Zamora, Jan-Henry Gray, and Anni Liu to stand together and speak out against the detention/separation of migrant families.

The Los Angeles local event will be hosted by Beyond Baroque and Vanessa Angélica Villarreal, and will include readings from:

Bridgette Bianca
Sara Borjas
Rocio Carlos
Sesshu Foster
Randa Jarrar
Kenji Liu
Janel Pineda
Eva Recinos
Yosimar Reyes
Christopher Soto
Brian Kim Steffans
Vickie Vertiz
& more

WITH SPECIAL GUEST

Vannessa Vasquez (East Los High, The Fix)

& RAFFLE PRIZES from Chani Nicholas

Tickets to attend this event are $20, but NO ONE WILL BE TURNED AWAY FOR LACK OF FUNDS. If you cannot afford a ticket, please feel free to still attend. We strongly encourage donations towards our fundraising efforts to support the rapid response work done by Immigrant Families Together. There will be opportunities to make donations via cash, Venmo, and personal checks, as well as a raffle.

Can’t make it to the reading on September 4? You can still show your support by making a donation to the national GoFundMe—just be sure to write “Los Angeles” in the comment box so we can count your generous donation in our local event and help meet our goal.
